An Experimental and Theoretical Comparison of 3D Models for Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Testing of Cracks: Part I, Embedded Cracks

چکیده

Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods are broadly used for detection and characterization/imaging of cracks. Simulation is great interest designing such NDT methods. To model the ultrasonic 3D response a crack, high frequency asymptotic (semi-analytical) models (such as Physical Theory Diffraction—PTD) known to provide accurate predictions most classical configurations, numerical have also emerged more recently. The aim this paper carry out first time an experimental theoretical comparison embedded cracks in configurations. Semi-analytical hybrid FEM strategy—combining high-order spectral Finite Elements Method (FEM) flaw scattering ray beam propagation—have been compared. Both validations comparisons between simulation experiments prove effectiveness PTD numerous configurations but validate demonstrate improvement provided by code, notably small flaws compared wavelength shear waves.

An Ultrasonic Technique for Sizing Surface Cracks

Rayleigh surface waves are proposed as a non-destructive method to find the depth of surface cracks. The paper describes how dynamic photoelasticity was used to develop an understanding of the subsurface interactions between R-waves and a narrow slot. A frequency analysis of the transmitted wave confirmed that the slot acts as a low pass filter for the high frequency Fourier components of the i...

Non-Destructive Evaluation of Depth of Surface Cracks Using Ultrasonic Frequency Analysis

Ultrasonic is one of the most common uses of a non-destructive evaluation method for crack detection and characterization. The effectiveness of the acoustic-ultrasound Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) technique for the determination of the depth of the surface crack was presented. A method for ultrasonic sizing of surface cracks combined with the time domain and frequency spectrum was adopted...

Angle Beam Ultrasonic Testing Models and Their Application to Identification and Sizing of Cracks

Identi fication and sizing of surface breaking cracks using angle beam ultrasonic testing in practical situations quite often becomes a very diffi cult task due to the presence of non-relevant signals caused by geometric refl ectors. The present work introduces effective and systematic approaches to take care of such a diffi culty by use of angle beam ultrasonic testing models that can predict ...

Comparison between Ultrasonic and Pulse - Radar Non - Destructive Testing Systems

-This paper describes comparison between our developed two Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) system with ultrasonic method and pulse-radar method. These systems could provide information of embedded objects in concrete structure. First, we introduce these NDT systems. The raw output images of these methods keep us from understanding them. To overcome this problem, we apply fuzzy logic into them. Ne...

Measurement and Modelling of the Rubber Resilience based on Ultrasonic Non-destructive Testing in Tires

In tire industry, it is very crucial to evaluate physical and mechanical properties of the rubber which is used for production of the tire, to ensure the quality of the final product. Resilience is an important property of a rubber, which cannot be evaluated through direct measurement in production cycle in this industry. Therefore, non-destructive ultrasonic testing, which has been used in man...
